MY OPINION ON CREATION

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

What will Twitter do to columnist that make a living on reporting other peoples life? Twitter is going to make many journalist become unemployed.....as long as celebrities and important people tweet their lives daily......their is no point to wait a month for information on ya favorite person.....twitter really let's you know what people are doing.... It's great for advertising and marketing.... It's like being in a room where everyone is yelling their life but it's quiet.... As soon as atheletes start tweetin'..... Sports fans will be very happy knowing their favorite sports figures 'prep' before a contest..... With Twitlingz able to leave pics and videos...... One can feel like they are right there..... And being able to communicate with who u are following is even sweeter.....

THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ON MARIJUANA

To some, medical marijuana is a contradiction in terms, immoral or simply illegal..... But to Aldrich and numerous people in the United States and around the world, marijuana, or cannabis, represents an essential medicine that alleviates debilitating symptoms..... Without it, these people wouldn't be able to treat their conditions..... Aldrich thinks he would be dead without marijuana. Others, like Dr. Kevin Smith, who was also featured in these pro-medical marijuana ads, can't treat their conditions for fear of breaking the law..... Smith says that, save for a trip to Amsterdam where he tried marijuana, the autoimmune disorders he suffers from have prevented him from sleeping soundly through the night for the last 20 years.....In states in which it's legal, doctors recommend medical marijuana for many conditions and diseases, frequently those that are chronic..... Among them are nausea (especially as a result of chemotherapy), loss of appetite, chronic pain, anxiety, arthritis, cancer, AIDS, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, insomnia, ADHD, epilepsy, inflammation, migraines and Crohn's disease..... The drug is also used to ease pain and improve quality of life for people who are terminally ill.....
The body of research surrounding the medicinal value of marijuana is extensive..... Much of it concerns THC, one of the cannabinoids in marijuana..... THC is what causes people to feel "high" and also what gives cannabis some of its medicinal properties, such as increased appetite..... The human body produces endocannabinoids, its own natural version of cannabinoids..... Studies show that the endocannabinoid system helps to regulate the body's responses "to a variety of stimuli" [source: Nature]..... The body will produce endocannabinoids when needed, but sometimes the effect is very brief..... Endocannabinoid receptors are found throughout the body but are especially prominent in the brain..... The cannabinoids in marijuana, like THC, bind to these receptors, producing various effects, some medicinal, such as reducing pain or anxiety, but also the feeling of being high..... Besides the aforementioned medical uses, research has shown that cannabinoids slow the development of certain cancers [source: Armentano].....

So how, exactly, does medical marijuana work to treat these conditions? Why, if this medicine is so effective for some people, why does it remain controversial and, in many places, illegal?.....take a look at the medical, legal, and practical issues surrounding medical marijuana in the United States.....examine why some people, like Burton Aldrich, depend on it to live normally.....also examine some of the intriguing intersections between pharmaceutical companies, the government and the medical marijuana industry.....

Then there is Marinol, which the DEA describes as the already existing, legal form of medical marijuana [source: DEA]..... Approved by the FDA and used for treatment of nausea in cancer and AIDS patients, Marinol is a pill containing a synthetic form of THC..... The DEA says that the legal use of Marinol is analogous to morphine being a legal, safe alternative to smoking opium or heroin [source: DEA]..... (Morphine is one of many approved medicines extracted from opium.).....

But some experts consider Marinol and other synthetic substitutes to be less effective -- and more expensive -- than marijuana..... Medical marijuana advocates say that Marinol is a less complete version of marijuana, lacking some of the compounds that make marijuana medically beneficial [source: NORML]..... Smoking herbal marijuana provides patients with a faster acting medication, one whose dosage they can easily regulate..... Marinol may also be more psychoactive than traditional cannabis and present its own set of side effects [source: NORML].....

ROBOT SCIENTIST MAKES DISCOVERIES WITH NO HUMAN HELP

A robot scientist that can generate its own hypotheses and run experiments to test them has made its first real scientific discovery.....
Dubbed Adam, the robot is the handiwork of researchers at Aberystwyth University and the University of Cambridge in the UK..... All by itself it discovered new functions for a number of genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, aka brewer's yeast.....
Ross King, a computational biologist at Aberystwyth, who leads the project, said that Adam's results were modest, but real.....
Adam, which actually consists of a small roomful of lab equipment, has four personal computers that act as a brain, and possesses robot arms, cameras, liquid handlers, incubators and other equipment..... The team gave the robot a freezer containing a library of thousands of mutant strains of yeast with individual genes deleted..... It was also equipped with a database containing information about yeast genes, enzymes, and metabolism, and a supply of hundreds of metabolites.....In all, Adam formulated and tested 20 hypotheses about genes coding for 13 enzymes..... Twelve hypotheses were confirmed..... For instance, Adam correctly hypothesised that three genes it identified encode an enzyme important in producing the amino acid lysine..... The researchers confirmed Adam's work with their own experiments.....

The team is now working on a new robot, called Eve, which will search for new drugs.....
Will Bridewell, an artificial intelligence researcher at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Cali, says Adam is operating only at the level of a graduate student..... Still, the robot is moving closer to the goal of an artificially intelligent machine that can cooperate with other scientists and write up their results in natural language, he says..... "That's probably far off, but it seems likely that we will get there. This is yet another step on the way."

The software, which was not pre-programmed with any basic rules of physics or geometry, was shown images of moving systems such as a double pendulum..... It then used an evolutionary algorithm to generate mathematical equations, and tested them to see if they accurately described the system it had observed...... For instance, the computer produced an equation that described conservation of angular momentum.....

In closing i think the Human race is going to create a problem that they cant create a solution for..... Isnt there a movie based on that?
