It's week 10 of the NFL 2014 season and we are sitting at 1 & 8. Many people and fans are speculating that the team is playing bad and the players are terrible. We cannot forget that a player can give a 110% but if he's in the wrong place its for nothing. Performance of the players is dictated by the orchestrator of the unit.
In our case our offensive coordinator is a rookie himself calling plays. He's a young guy that was hired as a quarterback coach that worked with Tedford in the past. I didn't think he was planning on calling plays this year when he was hired as the QB coach. With Tedford being out it was left up to Arroyo to steer the ship.
Tough task to ask someone who's never played at that level. If we look at the situations on how we lost at least five games under 7 points we can pinpoint a couple of times where situational play calling hurt us at certain drives. Having blocked field goals and many 3 and outs are a result of putting ourselves in tough situations at bad times.
Many of the true fan base understood that this new coaching regime would have trouble and sputter from the beginning. We have the talent that will be monstrous as they gel together this year. So by next year this team will be hitting on all cylinders.
Many argue that we should draft a quarterback with our number one pick. To have someone new to come in and try to gel, with 10 men who are already playing as a unit, will be difficult for that rookie.
It's not impossible but what are the odds of it happening?
My opinion is that we should draft heavy on defense and make sure that if we go 3 and out on offense that we make sure the opponents go 3 and out as well.
I also feel we should use our #1 pick as bait to the highest offer.
One side note, Mike Evans is going to end up top 5 in history
